The Dictionary of Björn Halldórsson, Lexicon Islandico-Latino-Danicum, was first published in 1814 under the supervision of the Danish linguist Rasmus Christian Rask (1787-1832). This dictionary contains around 30,000 headwords, a great many of which represent popular vocabulary of the 18th century. The dictionary thus has great validity for studies of the history of Icelandic vocabulary. The dictionary was republished in 1992, edited by Jón Aðalsteinn Jónsson.
