The Institute plays an active role in the teaching of Icelandic and Icelandic studies abroad, supervises the teaching of Icelandic by guest lecturers, and provides services to guest lecturers.

The Coordinating Committee for Nordic Studies AbroadThe Institute collaborates with bodies abroad, mostly in the Nordic countries, on a variety of projects. The institute is affiliated with the Coordinating Committee for Nordic Studies Abroad. The committee awards grants to guest lecturers for cultural promotion, and organizes conferences on the teaching of Nordic languages.
