Modern Icelandic Inflections

The Database of Modern Icelandic Inflections is a database of paradigms that allows one to search for words and inflectional forms of words, including personal names. The database presently contains approximately 260,000 paradigms.

The database may be searched in two ways:

Using standard headwords, for example the nominative singular of a noun (hestur), the infinitive of a verb (koma), or the masculine nominative singular of an adjective in the positive degree (góður)

Using any inflectional form, for example hestur, hesti, hestinum, hests, hestarnir; koma, kemur, kom, komumst, kominn; góður, góðan, gott, betri, bestur, by clicking on “Search for Inflectional Form”

Wildcards (*) may be used in searching for headwords, i.e. in the search for compounds.

Example:

*neyti -> akneyti, eldsneyti, föruneyti, etc.
erki* -> erkiasni, erkiauli, erkibiskup, etc.

If the result of the search yields more than one paradigm, a list of the words is displayed. The results are limited to 30 paradigms at the time.
