The Reykjavík Municipal Library, Árni Magnússon Institute of Icelandic Studies and Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages have started a campaign concerning the Icelandic language. These institutes will publish a short video daily until Icelandic Language Day.
These short videos are to celebrate and highlight the different voices of the Icelandic tongue. They will appear on social media and websites until Thursday, November 16th, when Icelandic Language Day will be celebrated all over the country in various ways.
The institutes call on students, teachers and individuals to work together on short videos which address the challenging questions of what Icelandic means to us and how we engage with the language.
Most mobile phones can make short videos of this kind, so the task should be simple and straightforward. The videos cannot be longer than one minute and should be marked with the hashtag #daguríslenskrartungu. It can also be shared on Icelandic Language Day on Facebook.
